The founder and first director of the ISA (VNIISI), honorary director of ISA RAN. 

Prominent domestic sociologist and philosopher, specialist in the field of management. Academician of RAS, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Laureate of State Prize of the RSFSR, winner of international prize "Golden Mercury", was awarded the Order of the October Revolution, and three orders of Labor Red Banner. 

Since 1977 -  the director, since 1992 - director emeritus of the Institute for Systems Analysis of Russian  Academy of Sciences (formerly VNIISI). In the years 1985-86  - Deputy Chairman of Gosplan. 

The main directions of his research: the philosophy and sociology, systems research methodology, theory of management. Honorary Doctor of the Prague School of Economics, member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, member of the Finnish Academy of Technical Sciences, Doctor Honoris Causa, Helsinki School of Economics, member of the American Academy of Management, a member of the International Academy of Management and a member of the Club of Rome, together with Lord Zuckerman - the organizer of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Laxenburg (Austria).
