Corresponding Member of RAS on the Office of Information Technologies and Computing Sciences (2003). 

In 1974 he was awarded a gold medal IFIP - for winning chess program "Kaissa" in the 1st world championship among computers. He is also a prize winner of the Council of Ministers of the USSR (for elaboration and implementation INES database used by over 2500 organizations in the USSR and the world) and the founder of a new scientific direction - the instrumental approach to the creation of software systems. By results of research DATOR TOP 100 1994-1998 and TopProfi 1995-2001, he was  admitted to one of the most authoritative persons who have brought the essential contribution to development of the Russian computer industry. According to ratings of the newspaper of Kommersant-Daily, V.L.Arlazarov enters in Top-100 leading Russian managers of the IT Industry for 2001-2003.  In 1990 he was awarded by the Council of Ministers of the USSR for a series of works on database management systems and their mass adoption. 

Currently -  the general director of company Cognitive Technologies, the Russian integrator specialising on working out of complex decisions in sphere of electronic document circulation, electronic trade and operation of business; the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a member of the European academy of sciences (since 2007). It focuses on the challenges that lie at the crossroads of artificial intelligence and systems for efficient processing of information (under his leadership, more than 50 Ph.D. theses). One of the world's leading experts in the field of optical character recognition (OCR). Is the Chief of the Department of Cognitive Technologies at the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute (MIPT).
