Abstract.The paper considers issues of continuous monitoring of the situation at the marshalling yard and predicts the possibility of emergence of critical situations. An approach is proposed for constructing an automated intellectual subsystem for analyzing and timely forecasting the critical utilization of railway sorting units. A solution to the prediction problem is proposed by using information from automated data collection systems and a neural network decision support subsystem.
