Abstract. 

The work is devoted to the analysis and assessment of current trends in the country’s transition to sustainable development (sustainable development), that is, development that meets the needs of the present without prejudice to future generations. Such a transition usually requires the modernization of technological processes. At the same time, difficulties often arise in finding the necessary investment resources, which can hinder the intensive implementation of appropriate innovative solutions. In this regard, the authors proposed a new mechanism for financing environmental projects. To substantiate this mechanism, the following tasks were solved: the trends in the transition of world economic systems to sustainable development and the formation of a green sector were considered; the world experience of green financing was analyzed and its possible volumes were estimated; the Russian experience of financing environmental projects has been systematized; the positive effect of “Greenium” is proved, which is increasing in the work of the issuers of the Moscow Exchange. The methodological basis of the study was the theoretical provisions on sustainable development, formed on the basis of the existing research experience of foreign and Russian scientists.
