Abstract.

The article reveals the evolution of approaches to the definition and study of the concept of competitiveness at the macro level. Particular attention is paid to the theory of Michael Porter. He defined the competitiveness of the economic system as a holistic concept, identified the most important components and formulated the reasons for the necessary holistic effect. The analysis showed that the activities of customs authorities can also have a integrated influence on the economy. As a result, the authors proposed ways to increase the country’s competitiveness through tariff and non-tariff regulation.
